8 Fall RV Camping Spots To Enjoy One Last Trip

Fall is a great time for RV camping with your whole family, including your dog.

If you’re like a lot of RV enthusiasts, you think that your traveling days are over once fall hits. Luckily, you couldn’t be more wrong.

There are tons of advantages to taking RV trips in the fall. A few of those advantages include smaller crowds (if any at all), lower admission fees, and less traffic. And we can’t forget to mention the beautiful fall colors you’ll get to see!

Before the snow rolls in, there’s time to take one last trip – and here are eight spots to go to make the most of it.

Boone, North Carolina

Boone is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is famous for its gorgeous fall colors and breathtaking sights. You’ll catch views of the Blue Ridge Mountains as you travel, and that, mixed with the stunning pops of red and gold, makes the trip worth it.

Travel through the Rhododendron Tunnel at Craggy Gardens, too. This is located in Black Mountain, and it’s where you can enjoy some perfect views of the expansive landscapes and mountain views. At night, it makes for a great stargazing spot.

While you’re in Boone, you can also enjoy local, seasonal cuisine from the Watauga County Farmers’ Market, along with arts and crafts, live music, and a kids’ corner for your little ones

Some nearby RV campgrounds include Boone KOA Holiday, Honey Bear Campground, and Flintlock Campground.

Grand Marais Campground, Minnesota

If you’re a lake lover, Grand Marais Campground is a wonderful place. It provides access to Lake Superior (and its surrounding regions), with full hook-up sites. When you’re here, expect plenty of activities, including a ball field, a playground, a pavilion right on the harbor, a community garden, a bike trail, and a recreation hall.

Isle Royale is just a plane or boat ride away, too, and it has some of the most radiant fall foliage in the Midwest. People come from all over just to experience it!

Around this area, along with Lake Superior views, you’ll also find the Sawtooth Mountains, Superior National Forest, and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, along with other famous Minnesota National Parks.

River’s End Campground and RV Park, Georgia

You might know River’s End Campground and RV Park thanks to Tybee Island, which is a popular summer vacation destination. What a lot of people don’t know is that the island gets a second wind in the fall, offering great weather, fewer tourists, amazing food, and lower prices. It’s very close to Savannah, too, for those who prefer the city scene!

At the campground, expect full hookups, free wifi, pet-friendly sites, plenty of shade, a gym, a pool, a 24-hour laundry room, and plenty of other amenities.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

If there’s one thing you can’t miss in Gatlinburg, it’s the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival. All the storefronts in Gatlinburg dress up in fall colors, and it’s an all-around festive time.

There’s also Oktoberfest at Ober Gatlinburg to check out. It has the typical Oktoberfest vibe of traditional costumes, German-inspired foods, authentic German music, and a Bier Garden. Kyker Farms offers fall fun in the form of corn mazes, hay rides, and pumpkin-picking, too.

A few places to camp with your RV include Twin Creek RV Resort, Smoky Bear Campground and RV Park, and Crazy Horse Campground

Coachman’s Terrace Park Campground, Wisconsin

This quiet little spot in Wisconsin is a good place to go if you enjoy shopping, skiing, and sightseeing. It comes complete with full hook-up sites, a pool, and Lake Geneva just around the corner.

Do a little exploring and find the nearby wineries, Geneva Lake Shore Path (a 21-mile long path that takes you on a trip past homes and neighborhoods on the lake), the history museum, and Tristan Crist Magic Theatre Shows.

If you go towards the west end, just a two-mile trip away, you’ll find popular restaurants, the Avani Spa and the Abbey Resort in its entirety – don’t forget to check those out, too.

Harbor Springs, Michigan

Harbor Springs is in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and it’s one of the most beautiful places in the state. It’s on Little Traverse Bay, and it marks the beginning of the Tunnel of Trees, which is like something out of a fairytale during the colorful fall season.

The Tunnel of Trees (or Highway 119) winds along the bluff of Lake Michigan, high above the water. There’s almost no place better to travel with your RV – these views are some we have a hard time putting words to.

Some nice places to camp with your RV in this area include Sun Outdoors Petoskey Bay Harbor, Jellystone Park Petoskey, and Hearthside Grove Motorcoach Resort

Luray KOA, Virginia

The Luray KOA might feel like you’re off in the wilderness, thanks to the green pastures that surround it, but you’re not too far from society in this park. It offers full hook-up sites, two seasonal pools (they might not be open in the fall, but they’re still worth mentioning), and a big dog park

This park is located near the Luray Caverns, which are the largest caverns in the country. It’s also near Shenandoah National Park, which is often lauded as one of the best places in the United States to view fall colors. And, what’s more, it takes only about an hour and a half to get to Washington D.C. from this spot, just in case you want to get some sightseeing done there.

Mena, Arkansas

If you’re interested in Arkansas’ most popular outdoor attractions, Mena is how you’ll get there. It’ll take you to Queen Wilhelmina State Park, Cossatot River, Lake Ouachita, and the Black Fork Mountain Wilderness.

Take the Talimena Scenic Byway through Ouachita National Forest to witness some of the most eye-catching fall colors you’ve ever seen in person. Throughout this byway, there are also plenty of walking trails – so, get out and see the foliage up close. Oh, and the trails are dog-friendly, too!

You can also try out the crystal dig site called Board Camp Crystal Mine. What’s great is that you’re allowed to take home anything and everything that you dig up yourself!

As for RV campgrounds, park your rig at Shadow Mountain RV Park, Mena Creekside RV Park, or Coyote Canyon Campgrounds for the full experience.
